Scott Ludlam

Senator, Greens

Scott Ludlam is an Australian Greens Senator for Western Australia. Elected in November 2007, he is one of ten Australian Greens in the current Parliament and is the spokesperson for Communications, Housing, Heritage, Nuclear Issues, Infrastructure and Sustainable Cities. He is also the spokesperson assisting on Defence and Resources and Energy.

A prolific and effective participant in the Parliamentary Committee process, Scott initiated Australia’s first national inquiry into public transport, and inquiries into structural asymmetries in the justice system, and protections for privacy protections online.

A former film maker, artist and graphic designer by trade, Scott has employed innovative communications tools to help with campaigns. He created the Bike Blackspot App, a smart phone application that enabled bicyclists to lobby for better bike funding. In 2007, he created a compelling 30-minute documentary on why nuclear energy is not the solution to climate change, titled 'Climate of Hope'. Some examples of short-form video work are here. He blogs at www.fieldnotes.org.au and can be found on twitter as @senatorludlam.
